A slim, ribbed soft plastic designed to dart, glide and quiver like a small baitfish. Recessed slot for riging weedless or snag resistant. The ReproBaits Split Tail Baitfish has a narrow tail section and fine forked tail. Unlike a paddle-tail lure, it does not produce a strong swimming action on a straight retrieve. Its movement comes from the way it is rigged and worked. Twitch it sharply to make it dart, hop it along the bottom or pause the retrieve and allow it to glide naturally through the water. Each bundle includes three packets containing eight lures in each colour. What you receive 8 × Chartreuse Pepper 8 × Whitebait Flash 8 × Black Gold 24 soft plastics in total Length: 4 inches / 10.16 cm Weight: approximately 4.3 grams each Hooks, jig heads and other terminal tackle are not included. Three colours for changing conditions Chartreuse Pepper A highly visible chartreuse colour with black fleck. Use it in dirty or discoloured water, low light, deeper water or whenever you want the lure to stand out. Whitebait Flash A translucent pearl body with silver fleck that resembles a small baitfish. This is a useful starting colour for clear water, estuaries and areas holding whitebait or other small baitfish. Black Gold A smoke-black body with gold fleck that produces a darker silhouette. Try it in stained water, overcast conditions, deeper water and around structure. Rigging methods The Split Tail Baitfish can be rigged several different ways depending on the location, depth and species being targeted. Standard jig head Thread the lure onto a suitably sized jig head for casting, hopping and general estuary fishing. Use short rod-tip twitches to make the lure dart from side to side. Pause between movements and watch the line because fish will often take the lure as it falls. Lighter jig heads create a slower, more natural descent. Heavier jig heads provide greater casting distance and better depth control in current. Drop-shot rig Nose-hook the lure above a drop-shot sinker and work it with small shakes and pauses. The fine split tail responds to very little rod movement, making this method useful when fish are holding close to the bottom or around pontoons, rock walls, bridge pylons and deeper structure. Weedless rig Rig the lure on an offset or weighted weedless hook when fishing around weed beds, timber, oyster racks and other snag-prone areas. An unweighted hook allows the lure to sink slowly and naturally. A weighted hook provides extra casting distance and helps reach deeper water. Unweighted presentation Rig the lure on a suitable unweighted hook when fishing shallow water or when fish are feeding close to the surface. Cast it around the edges of bait schools, pontoons, weed beds and other cover. Work it with a twitch-and-pause retrieve to imitate an injured or separated baitfish. Vertical jigging The lure can also be jigged vertically beside wharves, boats, bridge pylons and rock walls. Lower it to the required depth and use small lifts, shakes and pauses. Its ribbed body and split tail continue to move without an aggressive retrieve. Suggested hook sizes A #2 to 3/0 jig head or soft-plastic hook should suit many applications although the correct size will depend on the individual hook pattern and where its point exits the lure. Lighter jigheads or unweighted will give more action. Heavier jigheads will cast further and handle current better. Choose the jig-head weight according to: Water depth Current strength Wind Required casting distance Desired sink rate Make sure the lure sits straight on the hook. A bent or twisted body will reduce its natural darting and gliding action. Suitable target species The four-inch baitfish profile can be used for: Flathead Australian bass Estuary perch Tailor Australian salmon Trevally Mulloway Snapper Bonito Smaller kingfish It can be used in estuaries, rivers, lakes, harbours and sheltered coastal water wherever predatory fish are feeding on small baitfish.
