Grade 2 2LS - Living Systems 2SM - Scientific Methods Curricular Highlights Guiding Question: How do plants live and grow? Grade: 2 Categories: Living Systems, Scientific Methods Description: Students investigate how living things grow and change throughout their lives. The main focus is the life cycle of a flowering plant: seed, germination, seedling, adult plant, flower, fruit, and new seeds. Students use microscopes or hand lenses to examine seeds, compare dry and germinating seeds, and organize real plant materials into a life-cycle circle. They discover that fruit contains seeds, allowing the plant’s life cycle to begin again. Students record their observations in an observation journal and receive a kokedama to take home.
