Powered by an Atar 101 engine, it entered service in the late 1950s and provided the French Air Force with a capable day interceptor and strike platform.Israel later operated the type in combat service, upgrading selected airframes with the more powerful Pratt & Whitney J52 engine, creating the “Sa’ar” variant. These modified aircraft saw operational use during regional conflicts, benefiting from improved performance and enhanced strike capability. With its combination of French design heritage and Israeli combat evolution, the Super Mystère “Sa’ar” represents a distinctive Cold War jet development story and an attractive modelling subject with varied camouflage schemes and weapon configurations.
