A superb early Fullerton-made Fender Vintage Reissue ’62 Stratocaster, finished in Fiesta Red and presented in exceptional condition. These early AVRI/Fullerton reissue Strats have become increasingly sought after in their own right. Built at Fender’s Fullerton factory during the first years of the American Vintage programme, they were a serious attempt to recapture the look and feel of the pre-CBS instruments, and today the best examples have developed a strong following of their own. This one has clearly been very well cared for. The Fiesta Red finish remains beautifully clean and vibrant, and the guitar comes with its original case, tags and brochure. It appears original throughout apart from a changed 5-way pickup switch; the original 3-way is retained in the case. The neck carries a pencil date of 1-27-83 with a slab rosewood fingerboard and spaghetti logo decal. The profile is slim and very comfortable, measuring 42.5mm at the nut, with a depth of 20.1mm at the 1st fret and 21.7mm at the 12th. Electronically, it retains three correct black-bottom staggered-pole single coils, with CTS pots dating to 1982. The pickups read 5.65k at the neck, 5.70k in the middle and 6.18k at the bridge, giving the guitar a nicely balanced set with plenty of classic Strat clarity and chime. White plastics throughout keep the look clean (albeit not true to original spec) and the V01 serial number places it firmly among the desirable early Fullerton reissue examples. All in all, a fantastic early ’80s ’62 Reissue in a great colour and in superb condition. An excellent collector grade example!
