HOW TO PAINT BIRDS

South Downs Birds: Drawing & Painting Workshop Explore the birds of the South Downs through drawing and painting. We will study local species, looking closely at their shape, movement, plumage and character before developing observational drawings into expressive paintings. Alongside practical work, we will explore bird lore, folklore and symbolism, considering the stories and meanings birds have carried through different cultures and traditions. The workshop will explore mark-making, colour mixing, texture and composition, encouraging participants to capture the character of the birds rather than simply create a detailed study. Suitable for beginners and more experienced artists.
