A large and striking brutalist pendant by Mies De Wilde, crafted in sterling silver. Mies De Wilde (1932–2009) was an important Belgian goldsmith and one of the innovators of Belgian jewelry design from the 1950s onwards. His work was exhibited at Expo 58 among other events, and several of his jewelry pieces are now in the collection of DIVA in Antwerp. The pendant has an asymmetrical teardrop or leaf shape with a highly three-dimensional surface. The silver was organically modeled, creating undulating edges and a surface that looks different from every angle. In the center is an elongated polished arrow. As the original title or meaning has not been documented, we leave further interpretation to the wearer. The recessed areas were deliberately darkened with oxidation. This deep contrast emphasizes both the rough surface texture and the shiny central motif. The bail was discreetly integrated into the back, allowing full attention to be focused on the design. The pendant is paired with a sturdy sterling silver chain with rounded Venetian links. The chain is not originally by Mies De Wilde, but was carefully selected for the jewelry at a later date. With its width of approximately 3 millimeters and length of 50 centimeters, it complements the size and weight of the pendant. On the back is the MDW signature, along with the A925 hallmark and Mies De Wilde's ton-shaped Belgian maker's mark. Both the pendant and the chain are in very good vintage condition. The oxidized finish was deliberately applied and is part of the original design.
