U.S. Schenkl Percussion Fuze

U.S. Schenkl Percussion Fuze Brass fuze is in excellent condition. Patent information stamped on top of its rotator cap is present and visible with, “J. P. SCHENKL / PAT. OCT. 16, 1861”. Brass fuse has nice patina. Fuze anvil is set to be fired, but fuze and threads are in perfect condition. According to Charles H. Jones’ book “Artillery Fuses of the Civil War”, on page 103, “On July 15, 1862, J. P. Schenkl patented his “[combination] Time and Concussion” fuse, Patent No.35,897. The threads function flawlessly to reveal the inside components. An appealing addition to a Civil War artillery collection, particularly for collectors of shell components and marked ordnance.
