Based in Ishikawa, Japan, he approaches Kutani ware through both art and science, developing his own glazes to create colors and textures that did not exist in conventional ceramic materials. His experiments are extraordinarily precise: glaze colors are formulated to 0.00001 grams, while firing temperatures are adjusted one degree at a time. After more than 25 years of research, he developed a deep-red vitreous glaze with a distinctive sense of depth and luminosity. It is this pursuit of color, texture and light — guided by scientific precision — that gives Nakamura's work its unmistakable presence.
