Almost extinct few decades ago, they have now been revived with over 3000 artisans actively engaged from the preparatory stage to the completion of woven fabric.MAHESHWARI TECHNIQUEThe process of creating a Maheshwari involves preparation of the silk warp which is hand dyed to the required color. The warp typically has fine denting patterns which give the fabric its delicate ribbed appearance. Fine gold borders are linked by dobby attachments to the loom and weft bobbins wound in readiness for weaving. The pallas or end panels are sometimes ornamented with extra weft patterns and referred to as Jhala pallas.These diaphanous textiles with their unique silk warp and cotton weft construction are known as Neem Reshmi fabrics.Hand woven on pit or frame looms over 4000 silk threads are tied manually to form a single sari warp.
