Dimensions: 7.9 x 5.4 mm Clarity: SI2 Origin: Umba Valley, Tanzania Treatments: None Comments: This is an deal salt-and-pepper kornerupine -- GREAT color, and evenly distributed inclusions, and no fractures or dislocations. It has incredible brightness, and no haze, so the inclusions are mostly NOT silk, but micro crystal inclusions. The culet of this gem has been nipped, polished flat to remove a problematic inclusion. You can hardly tell, though, the flat facet is so small. I nicknamed this design 'scatterpillar' when I was cutting it. Just for fun. I think this would make a great ring, especially since having a clipped culet means you can design a ring for it that is extra low profile. (working professionals like nurses, or those in trades tend to appreciate low-profile rings).
