Hans Coper: A Modernist Potter < Exhibition Catalogue >
This is the exhibition catalog for ceramic artist Hans Coper, which toured six venues nationwide from 2009 to 2011, including the Hyogo Ceramic Art Museum, the Shigaraki Ceramic Cultural Park, and the Museum of Modern Ceramic Art, Gifu.Born in Chemnitz, Germany, Coper fled to England at the age of 19. His talent for the potter's wheel was discovered at the workshop of ceramic artist Lucie Rie, and he went on to create a succession of sculptural works. This catalog includes his representative works from his early period to his very last years, such as pieces that were conscious of architectural space and series inspired by ancient Cycladic sculpture. Works by Lucie Rie, who maintained a lifelong friendship with Coper, are also included. Publisher Heus-Ten Published: 2009 Pages: 183 Size: 278x228mm
