SWEDISH 1960 DARK BROWN STRIPED BESPOKE OVERCOAT BY OHLSSONS. SIZE CA EU 48 (US/UK 38)

DESCRIPTION This suit is of Swedish origin and is dated 12 October 1960. It was tailored by Ohlssons in Malmö, in southern Sweden. It is made from a dark brown cloth with a subtle fine stripe. The jacket is single-breasted with a three-button fastening. It features horizontal welt front pockets and a breast pocket. There is a buttonhole in the left lapel. The cuffs have four buttons, two of which are working buttonholes, a hallmark of bespoke tailoring. The back is straight with double vents, something that was relatively new in Swedish ready-to-wear and tailoring at the time. Internally, the jacket is fully lined and has three inside pockets: one large pocket on each side, plus a smaller pocket positioned just above on the left-hand side. The trousers have a single centre crease and vertical welt front pockets. They feature belt loops and a zip fly. At the back they are completely plain and have no pockets, most likely a specific request from the original owner; this should be regarded as an unusual detail. As for condition, the overall impression is good. On closer inspection, however, a number of minor flaws can be found. These mainly consist of discolouration to the lining, meaning nothing that is visible when the suit is worn. At the waistband of the trousers there is a tab, although the button required to fasten it is missing. The tab is not necessary for the fit of the trousers in any way; in other words, it makes no practical difference and could be removed if desired. Please study the photographs carefully and form your own opinion of the condition. SIZE In terms of sizing, the jacket and trousers differ slightly, which is typical of bespoke suits. The jacket corresponds to an EU 48 (US/UK 38) when measured by the chest. The trousers, however, correspond only to an EU 44 (US/UK 34) when measured by the waist. There is, however, sufficient allowance to let the trousers out to approximately an EU 46 (US/UK 36). In other words, the suit will fit best on someone with an athletic build, with well-developed shoulders and a slim waist. Please scroll down for exact measurements and seam allowances.
