[Ireland & UK]: [Variously dated 1855-1875] 4to, 22cm, c.62ff (of which 22ff used & 9ff both sides used i.e. c.31 sides used), hand-drawn map of Ireland. Original quarter tan sheep & attractive marbled paper covered sides (rubbed; corners worn), edges speckled brown. A varied assemblage of manuscript notes; tipped in manuscript notes; a hand-drawn political map of Ireland showing details of the valuation of each electoral division; tipped in newspaper clippings, and a manuscript letter from Arthur French? dated 1867. The content is political and genealogy and include ms notes from a political speech by Sir J. Romily, and on the British constitution; a synopsis of French family development and history; a short genalogy from 1585; with occasional military notes such as one concerning the 1st Brigade of the Roscommon regiment; an original poem by a later hand, initialled M.G., and a free quotation from Junius. Newpaper cuttings are political, and family related, and include clippings on Irish agricultural statistics for 1857; the state of public accounts; on the wastelands & bogs; a number of clippings concerning the ancient Irish parliament from the Limerick Reporter; a printed letter to the electors Of The County Of Roscommon by Fitzstephen French, dated 1868; references to Col. French having neglected duties as an MP and rebuttal, and article reporting the death of Arthur French, 4th Baron Freyne. A good copy (resewn). [Ref: 3457]
