LST-143 CRYSTAL PASTURES "Two Cathedrals" Cassette Tape Release date June 26, 2026 Crystal Pastures reside in the wet, lush, green rural areas of Washington State. The duo is comprised of Matt Fu (1985 / moonTV) and Eli Moore (LAKE), buds who first befriended each other and started doing shows together back in the late 90’s/early 00’s in gritty places like Bellingham and Olympia and in forgotten bands like Sears Catalog, Cardinal, A Sandcastle Still, 1985 and Palisades. The songs on this 6 song tape span exactly 20 years, from 2005 to 2025. The two new songs on this release were originally conceived as a single containing the tracks "Phocoena Phocoena" and "Night Stand." They were initially recorded in 2012 at Eli and Ashley’s home studio on Whidbey Island but were remixed with new overdubs in 2025. However, until now, neither version has been released. The 2025 versions are more polished with some additional instrumentation and new vocal takes, finalized in the same Langley cabin studio that Eli has recorded tons of past work and other crossover projects. It includes around 6-8 quick vocal correction/pitch smoothings that took Eli longer to argue Matt for than for him to mix (about 15min to seek out and smooth). The 2012 versions on side B take a more loose and minimalist approach and were recorded in Eli and Ashley’s early home studio trailer. Crystal Pastures began as a recording project in 2005 in a High Street apartment in Bellingham. The one and only performance of the band happened during this era and the album “Future Potatoes” archives these recording sessions. “Dawn Treading” and “Child Abuse” on this physical tape are from that album. In 2008, the buds got together in a Thomas Street apartment on Capitol Hill, to work on two new songs Eli had recorded and these wound up on a split cassingle with the Seattle band ALASKAS. Both those releases are included as bonus digital content here. These songs on the whole are reflections and lamentations on beginnings, endings, and the connections we make to each other, other beings and the land during our lives in between. Throughout Crystal Pastures "Two Cathedrals" EP you can hear slowcore influences from bands like Low and Bunkbed combined with Matt and Eli's airy, often falsetto vocals, drum machine, synthesizers, and guitars.
