Art Nouveau 15ct Gold Seed Pearl and Ruby Crescent Moon and Star Tie Pin
A charming early twentieth-century tie pin formed as a crescent moon embracing two ruby-set stars, highlighted by graduating seed pearls. Set in 15ct gold, a gold standard used in Britain between 1854 and 1931, it is a delightful example of the romantic symbolism that captivated jewellers at the turn of the century. Celestial jewels enjoyed enormous popularity during the late Victorian and Edwardian periods. The crescent moon was associated with feminine power, new beginnings and change, while stars symbolised guidance, hope and aspiration. Together they created one of the most enduring motifs in antique jewellery. The soft lustre of the seed pearls contrasts beautifully with the vibrant pink-red rubies, while the graceful curves of the design give the piece an elegant sense of movement. Originally worn to secure a gentleman's tie or cravat, tie pins were an essential accessory during this period and today are admired as miniature works of art. All our pins come with stoppers.
