22" H x 6.5"L x 6.5" W wood, ceramic, seeds and seed pods $300 Contact Susan to purchase Artist Statement: This piece is part of a series of small sculptures I began making for fun when while waiting for oil paintings to dry or when I’m stuck on what to do in a painting. All of my work is inspired by nature and aims to honor it. The series also came from musing about whether I could take my whole garden with me if I decided I need to leave for somewhere else in the world. More generally though, the image of the Garden is an archetypal one, a symbol of the Self, in contrast to the daily personas we wear. It is a place of refuge and grounding, and always with us. About the Artist: Susan received her M.A. in Art from Ohio State University. She joined the art faculty at the Evergreen State College and taught there until retiring as Faculty Emerita in 2012. Her work is influenced by her love of nature, mythology, cognitive science and psychology. She has exhibited regionally and nationally and completed several large public art projects in Washington schools through ArtsWA. Her work is included in many private and public regional collections, including the Seattle Public Works Collection, the ArtsWa Portable Art Collection, the City of Olympia Portable Works, and the Artist Book Collections at the University of Washington, the Evergreen State College and the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art. She lives and works in Olympia.
