Portrait Painting: Traditional & Contemporary Approaches

Tutor: Carl Randall | Tuesdays 6:30–9pm | 6 weeks In this balanced and well structured course, you’ll explore various approaches to portrait painting, in easy-to-follow stages. In the first half, your tutor will guide you step-by-step through a process using traditional Old Masters techniques (preparatory drawing, tonal under-painting, dry brushing and glazing techniques). The second half will be focused on more contemporary approaches – using texture, thicker paint, and looser mark making to create more modern-looking portraits.
