Ashtanga means eight limbs. Asana is one of them. ☼ I created this design out of a place of curiosity and joy at the beginning of my teaching apprenticeship, after a decade of daily yoga practice. It is to represent the beginning, end, and the different middles of the classical Ashtanga asana sequences. I wanted to create a minimalist expression of the fundamental opening and closing postures in a style that is intended to portray yoga asanas as simple essences and universally felt inner memories. I love to see them stripped down to an almost heiroglyphic alphabet state, rather than representing any ideals of gender, body composition, or physical identity. Yoga is for everybody. This limited edition print was originally distributed as gifts first and foremost: to my teacher, Angela Jamison, and the other assistant teachers and friends at Ashtanga Yoga Ann Arbor. They encouraged me to make them available here too. ♡ Read more about the yoga studies collection in the blog post here.
