The idea behind this necklace was to create something that will transfer the feeling of an ancient site into modern jewelry. We decided to employ traditional materials like glass beads and precious metals to create a lifelike ancient artefact that is also a contemporary piece of jewelry. Our creative team was inspired by ancient temples of Sicily, weathered by the sea winds as well as centuries. Uneven glass beads securely fixed on natural cotton thread align with the soft glow of gold and the polished surface of the stone, recreating the rich textures and colour palette of those Ancient Greek cities. Two strands of glass beads — dark green and misty white-olive — are arranged in a rhythmic sequence with gold-plated sterling silver elements, echoing classical craft traditions while maintaining a balanced, wearable structure. At the center, the marble head of Aphrodite appears as a sculptural fragment — as though recovered from a temple ruin. The stone shifts from warm ochre to semi-transparent alabaster-like tones, while the gold-plated crown with spire-like finials echoes a gold bead detail on the choker itself. The cotton braid closure is finished with stone beads, a gold-plated Macabre Gadgets seal, and a small shell — one of the oldest symbols of Aphrodite, referencing her birth from the sea. Aphrodite — one of the twelve Olympian deities, goddess of love, beauty, and desire — appears throughout classical literature and art, from Iliad and Odyssey to later sculpture and painting. In Roman tradition, she is Venus — one of the most enduring figures in Western visual culture, from the Venus de Milo to Botticelli’s Birth of Venus. The warm tones of glass, gold, and marble resonate especially in sunlight — carrying a distinctly Mediterranean atmosphere.
