Stephen Shore: Uncommon Places, Signed
Stephen Shore: Uncommon Places: The Complete Works Signed and inscribed by Stephen Shore Aperture, 2015. Second edition, first printing. Hardcover, 208 pages, 176 color plates. ISBN 978-1-59711-303-8. Very good condition. Inscribed on the title page: "For James & Jeanette — With My Best Wishes, Stephen Shore." This copy came to me directly from Shore as part of a trade. I'd sketched his portrait in grisaille at a book event at Oblong Books in Rhinebeck, and he asked to use the drawing. Over the years we got together from time to time—I'd visit him during office hours at Bard College, where he's run the photography department since 1982—and we'd compare notes about motifs, social media, and the shared pleasure of ordinary subjects. He signed this book for me and Jeanette during that period. The 2015 edition expands the landmark 1982 original with nearly twenty rediscovered images and a new statement by Shore on what it means to revisit a classic body of work. Includes essays by Stephan Schmidt-Wulffen and a conversation with Lynne Tillman, plus reproductions from American Surfaces and Amarillo: Tall in Texas.
