The Bat
La Chauve-Souris (original French title) Etching and aquatint printed from two plates, in black and in blue ink, on wove Arches paper. Edition of 100. This print, like most of the few etchings the artist created, is scarce. This composition is directly inspired by a sculpture by the same name from 1946. It is one of the artist's most accomplished and dramatic compositions, influenced by the dark years of the Second World War. Likely printed by Roger Lacourière, Paris. Signed and numbered in pencil. The verso of the sheet is fairly evenly toned; not affecting the recto.
