After completing his studies at the prestigious Bauhaus school in Germany during the late 1920s, Hoenig ran a practice in Berlin. He was forced to flee the Nazi regime due to his Jewish heritage, emigrating to London in 1933. In 1936, he established an upscale boutique and workshop on South Audley Street in Mayfair, operating under his signature label, LAHO. Hoenig became highly sought after by wealthy British patrons, including high-profile corporate leaders and political figures like Sir Winston Churchill. His furniture blended the minimalist principles of the Bauhaus with the opulent materials of late Art Deco and Mid-Century Modern styles. He was particularly celebrated for using premium veneers like satin birch and maple, which he frequently paired with tooled leather surfaces, brass accents, and distinctive Bakelite handles. Hoenig operated his influential Mayfair studio until his death in 1971, and his bespoke creations remain highly prized by global collectors today.
