Boreal Blue Montipora
Boreal Blue Montipora Coral Overview Boreal Blue Montipora is a plating Montipora with a cool blue to blue-purple base and contrasting forest green polyps. The colour combination gives it a darker, reef-grown look than a standard green or red cap, while the broad plating growth form still provides the layered structure hobbyists expect from a Montipora cap-style SPS coral. As it grows, this coral can form thin plates, curled edges, and overlapping shelves that add shape and depth to the reef. It is a strong choice for reef keepers who want a cooler-toned plating Montipora with visible polyp contrast rather than a single-colour cap. We used the Hydroshock 3-Part Complete System to grow this coral. It includes calcium, alkalinity, magnesium, and trace elements in the ratios that corals consume them. Care Requirements Boreal Blue Montipora does best in a stable reef aquarium with moderate to high light and moderate, variable flow. Like other plating Montipora, it benefits from enough flow to keep the surface clean without placing it in a constant direct blast. Lighting: Moderate to high reef lighting with gradual acclimation to stronger intensity Flow: Moderate, indirect, and turbulent flow Placement: Mid to upper reef placement with room for outward plating growth Care level: Best for stable, established reef aquariums Stability: Keep alkalinity, calcium, magnesium, salinity, and temperature consistent Montipora are often more approachable than many Acropora, but they still respond best to stable conditions. Sudden swings in alkalinity, salinity, temperature, nutrients, or lighting can reduce polyp extension, dull colour, or slow growth. Feeding & Nutrition Boreal Blue Montipora gets much of its energy from photosynthesis through its symbiotic algae. Long-term success still depends on overall reef nutrition, balanced nutrients, and steady husbandry. Some reef keepers support this broader approach with microbial and planktonic inputs such as Palustris Live Bacteria Bacto Fuel, Rhodomonas Live Phytoplankton, and Isochrysis Live Phytoplankton as part of a complete reef nutrition routine. These should support stable reef husbandry rather than replace consistent water parameters. Known Sensitivities Like other plating Montipora, Boreal Blue Montipora can react poorly to rapid changes in alkalinity, salinity, temperature, nutrient availability, or light intensity. Newly shipped or recently fragged pieces may look temporarily subdued before settling in. Its plating growth form should also be considered during placement. As the colony expands, it may shade nearby corals or collect detritus in low-flow areas if positioned poorly. Shipping & Arrival Guarantee We pack corals carefully for transit to help them arrive in good condition and transition as smoothly as possible into your reef. You can review our Shipping page for shipping details and our Arrive Alive Guarantee for arrival coverage and claim requirements. As with most SPS corals, prompt acclimation and stable tank conditions after delivery give this coral the best chance to settle in well.
