Near the top, numerous clusters of small buds will bloom into yellow flowers, attracting a variety of bees and butterflies. It is a host plant to several butterflies. Maryland Wild Senna keeps its seed pods closed even when they are ripe, which means that it will provide seed for birds and other animals later in the season when other plants don’t. It prefers loamy soil, but can tolerate clay. Consistent moisture is best, ideally around 1 inch of water per week with increased frequency during hot or dry spells in full sun.
