Watercolor workshops in Bainbridge, WA - Watercolor Boats and Water
*Registration open via BARN website* A 2-day, in-depth workshop that will teach you everything you need to know to draw and paint boats and water artistically in watercolor! This class is hosted by Artisan Resource and Network (BARN) - a makerspace offering high quality classes, facilities and mentorships on Bainbridge Island, Washington. Note that you can only get tickets through BARN website, not here on my personal website. We will start with simple yet effective ways to draw the curvatures of boats, study how reflections work, and paint a series of studies as well as a composed scene by exploring different combinations of boat types, water surfaces and lighting. We will also cover the fundamentals of working with the watercolor medium, from paint consistency, brushstrokes to color mixing. Beginners welcome! Agenda overview: Day 1 - we will learn to observe and draw boats at various angles. After that, we will learn the fundamentals of watercolor medium and then shade the boats and paint their reflections to suggest different light sources and water surface types. (You only need pencil, eraser and one neutral color for the class) Day 2 - we will evolve the basic boat shape and draw different types of boats, in a “mini scenes” with different backgrounds. We will then take one of the mini scenes and turn it into a larger, composed scene with color. In this process you will learn how to maintain your tonal range and focal points and not get distracted by too many colors.
