{8/22} Woven Willow Flowers

Learn the foundations of willow weaving while creating a sculptural woven willow flower by hand. In this beginner-friendly class, students will be introduced to the traditional beginnings of willow weaving by learning how to build and weave a simple round base — one of the foundational skills used in many forms of basketmaking. Guided by basketmaker Kandyce Galanis, participants will work with soaked willow to learn how to create structure, tension, and shape while weaving a six-petal willow flower inspired by folk basketry and natural forms. Throughout the morning, students will slowly build their flower from the center outward while learning how willow behaves, bends, and weaves. The class is intentionally kept small, allowing for plenty of individual guidance and a relaxed, thoughtful studio atmosphere while everyone works at their own pace.
