Antique Working Silver Whistle, 1907

A cutie little antique silver whistle, so perfectly formed and proportioned and DAMN GIRL. Those STAMPS. Some of the best I've seen?? Whistle charms were a Victorian and Edwardian staple, hung from chatelaines and watch chains and worn as much for superstition as for practicality. A working whistle was protection: something to summon help, ward off danger, cut through noise. The fact that this one still functions perfectly after all this time is super delightful. The form is exactly right: clean cylindrical body, the mouthpiece slot crisp and well-defined, a neat jump ring at the end for attaching to a chain. No fuss, no ornamentation. Just a beautifully made small object in solid sterling silver. And then you turn it over. The hallmarks on this are gorgeous, punched in deep and clear, a full set that dates this precisely. That legibility on a piece this small is a real pleasure.
