French Brass & Marble Coffee Table Attributed to René Drouet, circa 1945
French Wrought Iron, Brass and Portoro Marble Coffee Table Attributed to René Drouet, France, circa 1945 A coffee table from the golden age of French decorative ironwork. Hand-forged patinated iron, gilded brass, and Portoro marble. Four cabriole legs rise into a scrolled apron of sinuous ironwork, anchored at center by a sculptural gilt brass orb. From the apron hang small brass pendant drops, a detail particular to Drouet's known vocabulary. Brass-tipped feet complete the composition. René Drouet worked in Paris from the 1930s through the 1950s, producing metalwork for the city's most discerning interiors. The iron retains its original dark patina. The brass holds its gilt warmth. The Portoro marble shows age-consistent crazing that only deepens its character.
