Antique Maadan Baluch Rug [SH-381]
Antique Maadan Baluch rug. Woven in the Khorasan northeast. Seven intricate borders frame a field design of six rectangles. Its diamond-shaped center is opposed by water birds. Its outline, hooked birds' heads radiate. Note that the top four rectangles' secondary motifs are S motifs (Dragons). The last two birds are swans. The main outer border is well drawn. A flowing, meandering, hooked vine (birds' heads) with a few show crests. The large central T shape is clearly a well-drawn two-headed bird/eagle figure, V shape wings? Five colors/four cord goat hair selvedge. In original condition. Hand-wash by us. Weavings of the Salar Khani and the maadan tribes are finely made and sought after.
