He was first hired by the forces of Sultan Hakim during the failed siege of Hinatal, and when the assault broke he was taken alive among the prisoners herded back through the city gates. His natural charm did what his blade could not, and he talked his Hinatali captors into releasing him in exchange for five years of service as a sword of the city. Those five years are almost spent, yet Elwahid has come to love Hinatal as his own. He drinks in its market squares, sleeps under its blue tiled domes, and finds himself listing every reason he might re-enlist when his tenure ends.
