Karnataka Kowdhi - Panel (62" x 90")

This Kowdhi is filled with a different set of cotton fabric scraps, so it reads as a series of pieces placed side by side rather than a single uniform field. The cotton scraps within each panel come from Bengaluru’s tailoring shops and garment factory surplus, and the variation within each section keeps it from feeling repetitive. This quilt has prevented 1.85 kilograms of textile waste from reaching landfills and represents over 76 hours of meticulous work by skilled women artisans in rural north Karnataka. The hidden costs of water contamination, energy waste, and environmental destruction far outweigh the cost of a mindfully made upcycled product. The fabrics in this quilt come from multiple sources, handloom and powerloom cotton saved from going to waste. We recommend eco dry cleaning for the first two washes.
