Acorn Plate

Native to the area, oak trees produce acorns annually, but every few years they synchronize a massive, bumper crop known as a "mast year". If you time your visit for early-to-mid autumn following a mast year, the forest floor will be blanketed with acorns. The oak's acorns and buds are vital food sources for local red squirrels, pine martens, and various woodland birds. Handmade by Sasha Compton, each ceramic piece is entirely unique with intentional imperfections and irregularities in the shape. The process to create these artworks is lengthy; once the clay is shaped, it is fired to bisque, then decorated by hand and fired again. This plate is not food or dishwasher safe.
