Burn Up Excess DVD
Rio Kinezono is a top-flight martial artist, a valued member of Team Warrior — Tokyo's elite anti-terrorist special operations unit — and completely, chronically broke. Her spending habits are legendary within the department. Between missions involving drug rings, weapons smugglers, and the recurring threat of the dangerous and unpredictable Ruby, Rio is primarily preoccupied with finding a rich boyfriend who can fund her lifestyle. Flanking her is Maya Jingu, Team Warrior's green-haired sniper whose relationship with assault rifles is best described as deeply personal. Computer specialist Lilica, technology expert Nanvel, and the mysterious unit commander Maki round out the team. Together they handle cases that the regular Tokyo Metropolitan Police cannot — or will not — touch, and they do it with a combination of genuine competence and maximum property damage. Burn Up Excess is a 13-episode television series produced by AIC and Magic Bus, directed by Shinichiro Kimura, and serving as the television sequel and expansion of the Burn Up W OVA — picking up the same core cast and continuing their adventures in a longer-form episodic structure. The series aired from 1997 to 1998 exclusively through DirecTV in Japan, making it one of the earlier anime produced specifically for satellite broadcast. The series features the same action-comedy-fan service blend as its OVA predecessor, and ADV Films included their trademarked "Jiggle Counter" on the DVD releases — a running tally of fan service moments — a gag feature also used on their release of Plastic Little. Released in North America by ADV Films across four individual DVD volumes in 2002; a Complete Collection box set was released April 27, 2004, with an ADV Classics reissue on September 18, 2006.
