The Golden Hind – a Vintage Trains excursion

Fifty years ago D1015 Western Champion operated the final trains in its British Railways career, following thirteen years of working across the Western Region from depots such as Old Oak Common and Laira. To celebrate this anniversary, The Golden Hind has been created by our friends at Vintage Trains and will take our group from London Paddington to Plymouth in style. Enjoy a spirited run from Paddington to Plymouth (for an afternoon break of two and a half hours) and return, as Western Champion hauls the train unassisted via Westbury. Featuring fast running from London Paddington on a route described as “Brunel’s Billiard Table” and over challenging gradients in South Devon, this journey has everything you could want to see the diesel hydraulic at its best on the routes it once ruled.
