Floss Flower (Ageratum houstonianum) Non-GMO - Organically Grown - Flower Annual Tender annual (will not survive frost, but grows quickly and blooms heavily in one season) Full sun to part shade (best flowering occurs in full sun with some afternoon shade in hotter climates) Full Description Floss Flower PW (Mexican Ageratum) is a compact, floriferous bedding plant prized for its soft, fuzzy clusters of vivid blue to lavender blooms that resemble little pom-poms. This Proven Winners selection is bred for uniform growth, long-lasting color, and continuous blooming from late spring until frost. Its dense, mounding habit makes it ideal for borders, containers, pollinator gardens, and mass plantings. Bees, butterflies, and other beneficial insects are strongly attracted to its nectar-rich flowers, making it both ornamental and ecologically valuable in the garden. Full Growing Information from Seed: Start seeds indoors 8–10 weeks before last frost. Sow seeds on the surface of a fine seed-starting mix—do not cover, as light is required for germination. Mist gently to keep the surface moist but not waterlogged. Maintain a soil temperature of 20–24°C (68–75°F). Germination typically occurs in 7–14 days under consistent warmth and bright light. Once seedlings develop their first true leaves, transplant into larger cells or pots. Harden off gradually before moving outdoors after all risk of frost has passed. Space plants 15–30 cm (6–12 inches) apart for best airflow and flowering performance. Pinching young plants encourages bushier growth and more blooms. Keep soil evenly moist but well-drained. Regular deadheading is not required for continuous bloom, but light trimming can encourage a tidier shape and extended flowering. Medicinal Properties: Ageratum houstonianum has been used in traditional herbal practices in some cultures for minor skin applications and folk remedies. However, it contains naturally occurring compounds (including coumarin derivatives) that can be toxic if misused or ingested. It is not recommended for internal medicinal use. Its primary value today is ornamental and ecological (pollinator support) rather than therapeutic. PW Stratification No stratification required Seed Count: 25
