Cultural Medicine
Knowing who I am & where I come from has been a constant central guiding path & purpose in my life. I have strong memories & wonderings that I still draw from my early childhood years, where pro-activism & Aboriginal ways of knowing & being were strongly practiced. Growing up in culturally centred, nurturing family life, being cared for included parents, grandparents & family of all generations, living & gathering on our rivers & our bushlands, where sharing stories & memories was a way of life; and creativity was used in multiple differentiated forms & ways to service different purposes, both cultural & otherwise…a central guiding path nurturing strength, pride & purpose to explore deeper into our histories & stories & cultural ways of being & knowing ourselves. Over the years I increasingly express & relate holistically to cultural ways of being as different forms Cultural Medicine that we can purposely restore through using culturally appropriate ways that are determined & shaped by our People, for our People, who we are & where we come from. Key Yorta Yorta language words are best used here to authentically express relational, historical, cultural & contextual significance, meanings & ideas flowing through our Cultural Medicine collaboration contributions largely by Yorta Yorta Winya’s & Women from other mobs. Ngaikun speaks to the importance of knowing who we are & where we come from, Angurram embodies a sense of Being who we are, Bamunga expresses our ability to Feel, who we are & Gabra, guides us to tune into our innate senses, exploring & relating to the interconnected nature of Aboriginal cultural intelligence. Our Nanyak, our Dreaming map where everything is connected to everything else…ancient stories & ways of being have been embedded in our People, our Bloodlines & Country from Time Immemorial! Nanyak holds the essence of our Dreaming, our Cultural Medicine…knowing & living who we truly are, & where we come from is what connects us to our Ancestors, our Country & to each other, our Ancestral songlines awakens us to feel & know our senses as cultural beings…healing comes in many shapes & forms, Cultural Medicine reflects our holistic journey to explore, reset, heal together through creation. We strive to create space, slow time down, strengthen & restore our greatest potential through purpose, healing & gratitude. Our cultural language, symbols & creations let our Ancestors know that we are still here to be guided by the Legacies & Ancestral knowledge systems of our Ancestors over Time Immemorial.
