The medium-to-large pomegranates contain dark red arils with a rich sweet-tart flavor and high sugar content, and this variety is especially well known for its excellent juice production, making it a wonderful choice for fresh homemade pomegranate juice as well as fresh eating, sauces, syrups, jams, jellies, marinades, and other culinary uses. The attractive shrub or small tree also makes a beautiful addition to an edible landscape or backyard orchard, producing showy orange-red flowers before developing its colorful fruit. ‘Kara Bala Miursal’ is self-fertile, so only one plant is needed to produce fruit, and established pomegranates are naturally tolerant of heat and periods of drought.
