Ready to try your hand at real metalsmithing? In this beginner-friendly, torch-free workshop, you’ll learn the foundations of cold connections by building a custom, multi-layered piece from brass, copper, and nickel silver. Whether you want to craft a striking statement pendant, a sturdy keychain, or an eye-catching bag charm, you’ll get hands-on experience using professional studio tools to texture, shape, and assemble your design. No prior experience is necessary—you’ll be guided step-by-step from raw metal to a finished heirloom piece you can proudly wear or carry every day. Duration: 2.5 Hours Price: $65 per person (All-inclusive: metals, tools, and hardware provided) Class Size: Group of 4 (plenty of one-on-one guidance) What You Will Learn: Surface Texturing: How to use hammered textures, design stamps and a rolling mill to give raw sheet metal distinct patterns and character. Design & Layout: How to layer different shapes and metals for a high-contrast, professional look. Drilling & Punching: Proper technique for marking and making clean holes in metal. Cold Connections: How to connect your layers and components to mechanically lock them together securely without heat. Finishing & Polishing: Filing edges and giving your piece a final professional polish or matte brushed finish if you prefer. Your piece, your design! What You Take Home: One or two completely finished, custom-designed pieces. _______________________________________________________________________ Safety & Dress Code Closed-Toe Shoes Required: Open-toed shoes, sandals, or flats are strictly prohibited for your safety around heavy tools, benches, and dropped equipment. Appropriate Clothing: Wear natural fibers (such as cotton or denim) instead of loose, flowing synthetics, and avoid dangling sleeves or loose clothing that could catch on machinery or tools. Hair & Accessories: Secure long hair back, and remove long necklaces, scarves, or dangling bracelets before entering the workspace. Eye Protection: Safety glasses will be provided and must be worn during active cutting, hammering, or torch work. Workshop Attire: Bring a sturdy denim, canvas, or workshop apron if you have one, or wear older clothes that you don't mind getting stained by dark metal patinas, polishing compounds, or workshop grime.
