Predating coinage, these tokens, sometimes called arrowhead money, were used to facilitate the trade in slaves and food crops. They are bronze, refurbished, silver-plated, and suspended from a sterling silver chain for modern wear. This example is just over 1 1/8” (1.10”) in height plus the suspension loop, of leaf shape with a high medial ridge on one side. It is suspended from a modern 18” sterling silver neck chain.
