A 40 Bore Flintlock Duelling Pistol by Wogdon of London. With round sighted barrel, engraved ‘Wogdon’ (in script) and, ‘LONDON’ decorated with a geometric band at the breech, stamped with Wogdons barrel smiths mark and London proofs, profusely engraved steel tang incorporating back-sight, stepped bevelled lock, signed in script and fitted with a sliding safety catch, set-trigger, full-stocked in walnut (old repair to butt) engraved steel mounts, comprising foliate engraved butt cap, trigger guard engraved with flower head on the bow and acorn finials, turned ramrod pipes and original horn tipped ramrod with worm. WOGDON/WOGDEN Robert Apprentice to Edward Newton, gunmaker, Grantham, Lincs, 1748. Gunmaker at Mr Maw haberdasher, Cockspur Street, Charing Cross, 1764; Haymarket, 1774-1802. With John Barton traded as Wogdon & Barton, from 1795, succeeded by Barton, 1803. Famous for duelling pistols.
