StrumbleBee Acoustic Stick Dulcimer with Piezo Pickup A unique three-string acoustic stick dulcimer converts to electric via the piezo pickup. Its "zero fret" setup leads to low and very playable action. The floating bridge makes it easy to achieve excellent intonation even with changing string weights. It's diatonically fretted, including 6-1/2 and 13-1/2 frets, up through the 14th fret (two octaves per string). It will feel quite familiar for those experienced with mountain dulcimers and will come intuitively to others: it's do-re-mi! Designed for DAD tuning but it also works great in alternate tunings (DAA, DGD, DAC, etc.). The carbon rod hidden in the neck adds great sustain and tuning stability. The body's side "horn" gives it great balance when played with a strap: there's no head dive. Works best with a relatively short strap, as the body size is small compared to standard guitars. It has a great acoustic sound, bright and happy. The tone is closest to a mountain dulcimer, maybe on the slightly brighter end of that family range. Check out the Akerworks Fine Instruments YouTube channel for a tone demonstration. Plugged in, the sky's the limit! It works great plugged straight into many amps, no preamp needed. 25.5" scale length, 33.5" overall length mixed hardwood top and body (Walnut, Black Cherry, Hard Maple) maple neck carbon fiber rod fixed neck truss walnut fretboard maple inlay side/top fret markers Adirondack Spruce top and back bracing, Gotoh sealed tuning machines, made in Japan Murata passive piezo pickup connected through a Switchcraft endpin jack FolkCraft Dulcimer strings, their 0.010-0.012-0.024"(RW) set hardwax oil finish Designed and fabricated in our shop in Knoxville, TN.
