Handwoven Coasters, Set of Four - Blue/White, Rwanda

These beautiful coasters are created by weaving sisal around sweetgrass, a fragrant, slightly sweet grass local to Rwanda. Ethically handmade by women in Rwanda, this set of four coasters makes the perfect gift. Each coaster measures 4" in diameter. All of our products are shipped with cards containing information about fair trade and the corresponding artisan group. ABOUT THE ARTISANS This basket is handwoven in a fair trade women's cooperative in Rwanda. In addition to receiving fair wages, the artisans are provided with skills training, market access, a collaborative work environment, and a path for economic independence. Modern designs pair with traditional techniques to create baskets that appeal to Western markets. The women have seen their lives greatly improve through steady, well-paid jobs and access to further education.
