Compact Cast Iron Heat with TruHybrid™ Catalytic Combustion and a Soapstone-Lined Firebox Soapstone-lined cast iron construction from HearthStone's Spanish foundry, TruHybrid™ catalytic combustion, burn times of up to 16+ hours, and a compact footprint sized for a large room or small home. Key Features TruHybrid™ combustion system combining primary and secondary combustion with catalytic tertiary combustion EPA certified at 1.07 g/hr particulate emissions under the 2020 EPA particulate standard, tested with crib wood 79% HHV weighted-average efficiency, measured across four burn-rate categories using EPA Method 28R and CSA B415-10 methodology Published burn time of up to 16+ hours, with a HeatLife™ of up to 20 hours per the current owner's manual High-quality cast iron parts from HearthStone's own foundry in Spain, finished in matte paint or porcelain enamel, with a soapstone-lined firebox 1.32 cubic foot firebox accepts logs up to 16" in length Heats up to a maximum of 1,400 square feet, depending on insulation, floor plan, stove placement, and fuel quality Three current finishes: Black Matte, Brown Enamel, and Basil Enamel 6" flue collar, shipped in the top-exit configuration and convertible to direct rear exit per the owner's manual, with approval for U.S. mobile home installation when installed to the manufacturer's requirements Product Features TruHybrid™ Combustion Technology The TruHybrid™ system burns the fuel, then the gases the wood releases, then routes the remaining exhaust through the catalysts for tertiary combustion. A bypass handle directs combustion products around the catalysts during startup and reloading, and through the catalysts once the catalyst thermometer shows the stove is in its active range. The Craftsbury uses Applied Ceramics ACI-6M2 catalytic combustors, installed as two cartridges, which require periodic inspection and eventual replacement. The catalysts become active around 500°F, and the Craftsbury typically operates in the 800°F to 1300°F catalyst temperature range. HearthStone states that a roaring fire produces no visible smoke from the chimney when the TruHybrid™ system is engaged and functioning. Cast Iron and Soapstone Construction The Craftsbury is constructed of high-quality cast iron parts produced at HearthStone's own foundry in Spain and is lined with soapstone blocks. Soapstone absorbs the heat of the fire and releases it gradually, warming objects in the room rather than only the air. HearthStone notes that soapstone requires gradual break-in fires so the natural moisture in the freshly quarried stone is driven out slowly, and that stone color may change and surface fractures may appear with use without affecting stove function. The enamel finishes are porcelain Majolica enamels, applied as molten glass fused to the iron; HearthStone notes that color variation and fine crazing lines are a normal, cosmetic part of this finish. Compact Firebox The 1.32 cubic foot firebox accepts logs up to 16" in length. HearthStone notes that the amount and weight of wood contained per cubic foot of firebox volume can vary from 10 to 25 pounds per cubic foot depending on the type of wood, moisture content, packing density, and other factors. Fire Viewing and Everyday Operation A large glass window lets the fire be seen from a variety of locations in the room. A single primary air control lever below the ash lip regulates the burn rate, the bypass handle controls catalyst engagement, and a catalyst thermometer shows when the stove is in the active temperature range. The front door glass is a ceramic, thermal shock-resistant glass made specifically for use in woodstoves. Heating Performance HearthStone publishes a heating area of up to a maximum of 1,400 square feet and a maximum heat output of 40,000 BTU per hour of cordwood, based on independent laboratory test results. Under specific EPA test conditions, the Craftsbury 8392 has been shown to deliver heat at rates ranging from 13,900 to 31,600 BTU (output). HearthStone states in the current owner's manual that the Craftsbury should not be considered the primary heat source for a home, and that factors unique to a given house can reduce the square footage the stove will heat. Available Finishes and Configurations The Craftsbury 8392 is currently orderable in three finishes. Pricing varies by finish. Finish Part ID MSRP Black Matte 8392-0010 $3,599 Brown Enamel 8392-0020 $4,299 Basil Enamel 8392-0083 $4,299 Pricing notice: Prices shown are current manufacturer-suggested retail prices for the stove in the selected finish. Converting to the rear-exit configuration requires switching the positions of the flue collar and the flue plate and modifying the included rear heat shield by removing a section so the pipe can pass through it, following the steps in the owner's manual. In the rear-exit configuration a draft of -0.08" WC or more is necessary to ensure proper function of the stove, and the minimum chimney height is 15 feet; HearthStone recommends a minimum chimney height of 19 feet off the floor for rear-exit connections. Do not install the stove in the rear-exit configuration if the installation does not have sufficient draft. Chimney connector clearances, through-the-wall or rear-exit arrangement For a top-flue installation venting through the wall, or a direct rear-flue installation, the manual publishes the following clearances from the stove and the vertical chimney connector to the rear combustible wall. These clearances pertain to all sides of the connection pipe. For stove side clearances, use the parallel installation clearances above. Hearth and floor protection Combustible flooring must be protected with a covering of noncombustible material, such as a continuous layer of tile, brick, slate, or glass. The Craftsbury 8392 does not require an insulated hearth pad and there is no R-value requirement; the requirement is ember protection. Installation notice: Clearances and hearth requirements vary by connector type, shielding, and installation configuration. Refer to the current Craftsbury 8392 owner's and installation manual and applicable local requirements before installation. Outside Air Starter 96-53400 $109 Connects the stove's air intake to a minimum 3" diameter duct supplied by others. Required for mobile home installations. In Canada, the stove must be attached to the home's floor and a duct damper allowing 100% closure must be installed. 3" to 4" Outside Air Increaser 90-53308 $49 Optional adapter for a 4" outside-air duct, used with outside air kit 96-53400. Warranty HearthStone warrants the appliance to the original retail purchaser only, when purchased by that purchaser and installed by an authorized HearthStone dealer or their designated representative, against defects in material or workmanship. Coverage begins on the date of the original invoice and is not transferable to subsequent owners. Warranty periods differ by component. HearthStone defines the term "Limited Lifetime" as 10 years from the beginning of warranty coverage, and applies it to the stone and to cast iron not listed elsewhere. Door handles and latches and steel components and the firebox carry a 5-year period. Appliance electrical components carry a 2-year period. Enamel finish against peeling or fading, glass, accessories, and all components not listed elsewhere carry a 1-year period. The catalytic combustors are covered directly by the combustor manufacturer, Applied Ceramics, under a separate limited warranty that provides free replacement within two years of purchase and prorated replacement pricing thereafter. HearthStone pays for warranty labor performed by an authorized dealer during the first year after the purchase date only when the appliance was installed by an authorized dealer or their designated representative; otherwise, and thereafter, labor is the purchaser's responsibility. Exclusions include over-firing, improper installation or operation, service by anyone other than an authorized dealer, use of unapproved fuels or components, water and corrosion damage, and normal wear parts such as paint, gaskets, baffles, refractory materials, and glass. Surface and hairline cracks and scratches in the stone that do not affect operation or safety are excluded, and HearthStone's obligation does not extend to the appliance's ability to heat a desired space. Warranty registration is not required as a condition of coverage. Refer to the complete warranty in the current Craftsbury 8392 owner's manual for the full terms, conditions, and limitations.
