The Paul Vest is knitted in stockinette stitch from the top down. First, the left and right shoulders are knitted separately, then joined together. Stitches are then cast on for the back and again for the right and left fronts. Shorter rows at the shoulders ensure a better fit. Once all sections are completed, they are joined and knitting continues straight. Then, stitches are picked up along the armholes to work the folded edge in 1x1 ribbing in the round, which is then attached. Next, stitches are picked up for the folded neckband in 2x2 ribbing, which is worked in rows and then attached. Finally, the front bands are worked in double knit, including buttonholes. The knitting kit includes an alternative to the original yarn specified in the instructions.
