Beclometasone dipropionate is a steroid (corticosteroid) that works inside the nose to reduce inflammation. It is the same active ingredient, at the same strength, as the over-the-counter hay fever spray — but the prescription version has a broader licence and a larger 200-spray pack, so it can be used for situations the pharmacy-only pack cannot cover. When the prescription version is used Perennial (year-round) allergic rhinitis — for example from house dust mite, pet dander or indoor moulds, not just seasonal pollen. Vasomotor (non-allergic) rhinitis — persistent nasal symptoms without an allergic trigger. Children and young people aged 6 to 17 — the pharmacy pack is for adults 18 and over only.
