Once the working screw of a traditional Moroccan olive press, this piece is hand-carved from a single length of solid wood into a bold, ridged spiral form — the mechanism that once drove a stone or plate downward to press oil from olives. Decades of mechanical use have worn its ridges smooth, leaving a surface shaped as much by labor as by hand. Retired from work and mounted on a fabricated steel base, it now reads as pure sculpture: a tall, architectural column with genuine agrarian history, striking alone or grouped in pairs at the base of a stair, in an entry, or along a wall of windows. Each screw is now set into a fabricated steel base for stable, freestanding display.
