"Toronto Skyline" Bronze Relief Sculpture Josef Petriska 1970's
This wonderful bronze relief sculpture from Josef Petriska (1929-2015) depicting the Toronto skyline, circa 1970's, is a maquette of a much larger piece that was commissioned by the Eaton Center. He made only a few of these which were presented to dignitaries involved with the commission. Petriska was both artist and environmentalist. He is most renowned for a 4 metre high sculpture of a dying bird, a poignant work, brought on after witnessing the horrors of a California oil spill on the local wildlife. His work is featured in public and private collections around the world. -11 1/2" x 4 7/8." -Signed in the bronze, bottom left corner, JPetriska -Flat Back so will require framing to hang on a wall or can be artfully rested on a floating shelf or small easel.
