Molten Sculpy ~50ml

Andrew's work challenges all of my baises when it comes to functional pottery. We always say pottery exists on a spectrum from functional to aesthetic and 10 times out of 10 I will pick the extremely functional. These sculptural sippers(and these functional ones) challenge my perception on what is functional. With many of these sipper feeling awkward in one hand but fitting like a glove in the other. Or yet others (#11) featuring the curves that remind us of a curved belly with a soon to be baby inside... These sippers not only shake us up, but make us think, and smile every time we pick one up. Are they perfect? Yes. But not because the rim is even, not because they are uniform, Quite the opposite. Because, they are not. Sippers in their highest form not gulpers(40-60ml). Note: while these are sculptural art, Andrew is a skilled potter and that is very clear in the good balance, even wall thicknesses and other characteristics you find with skilled functional potters. There's nothing that drives us crazy like work that looks good but function isn't considered. It considered here and challenged.
