Antique 15ct Rose Gold Target Brooch with Anchor by Dunklings, Circa 1900.
A charming and well made antique brooch by Dunklings, dating to around 1900. The target form — three concentric circles in warm 15ct rose gold — provides a clean, structured frame for the central motif. At the centre sits a diamond encrusted anchor, a motif with strong symbolic associations in the Victorian and Edwardian periods, representing hope, steadfastness and fidelity. Draping across the front is a length of finely worked gold rope, its natural curve adding a softness and informality to what might otherwise be a strictly geometric composition. The contrast between the structured circles and the loose fall of the rope is quietly effective. The Dunklings provenance adds a further point of interest — the Melbourne retailer has a long and well documented history in Australian fine jewellery, and pieces carrying their name are increasingly sought after by collectors of Australian jewellery history.
