V-156-B1 Chesapeake Vindicator Dive Bomber aircraft model kit in 1/48 scale by Academy Characteristics Condition Opened, Complete inside Scale 1/48 Manufacturer Academy Size of the box 33 x 23 x 7 cm EAN 8809258920540 Description The Vought V-156-B1—known in British service as the Chesapeake Mk.I—was a naval dive bomber developed from the American Vought SB2U Vindicator. Originally ordered by the French Navy as an export model, the contract was taken over by the British Royal Navy's Fleet Air Arm following the fall of France in 1940. To meet British requirements, the aircraft received modifications including increased armor, larger fuel tanks, and four wing-mounted machine guns, alongside a rear defensive gun. Powered by a Pratt & Whitney R-1535 Twin Wasp Junior radial engine, the Chesapeake proved to be somewhat underpowered and struggled with a lengthy takeoff run. Because of this, it was primarily relegated to training and target-towing duties rather than front-line carrier combat.
